One of the most effective tools for promoting communication within the Group and keeping members abreast of Group science has been the semi-annual SWOG meeting. These meetings foster dialog among Group members and are a chance to evaluate the success of ongoing studies, fine-tune new studies and identify future directions. They also provide continuing education opportunities. Workshops and the Plenary Session update members on advances in clinical and laboratory research, and inform them of important study results. Meetings also include training sessions to instruct clinical research associates and nurse oncologists in methods to more effectively perform their jobs. Finally, these semi-annual meetings promote camaraderie between members and loyalty to SWOG activities.
